Obtaining knowledge has been the mission of each one of us ever since we got out our mother’s womb. This is proven by how we used to interact with things when we were babies, clinging into random items and doing all sorts of things to it, wishing for a result. We only grasp this idea later though, only when we are mature enough to be by ourselves.

This burning desire of knowing everything about our surroundings has stayed within the hearts of the Filipino people. We scout for more, even if it means we risk our lives for it. We want to reach our peaks so early, that we left behind something extremely important.

Well, what about the youth? We have become increasingly invested in our own goals that we forget to take care of the future of not only our family, but also the future of the country. Even if school is there to help the students learn, it is still not enough.

The number of unnecessary knowledges that are given out in schools around the country has baffled the minds of parents around the world. To give context, is there a job about learning history? Is there going to be an average person that puts its focus to manners? Even if these things have become a niche for each of us, no one is still going to pursue such irrelevant places.

This is exactly the reason why everyone opts for a change in the school curriculum. Many of these people want the current schedule to only teach necessary knowledges that help the students mature, or just replace the somewhat unnecessary parts of learning with much more useful alternatives.

Fortunately, the is no need to feel low today. The Department of Education has recently confirmed that there will be a major change in the school curriculum, a change that will help the students learn faster and quicker, while keeping its original purpose. This adjustment to the curriculum will be called “The MATATAG agenda”, a program that will help put the troubles of students to the end.

The agenda will consist of only five subjects, a major drop from the previous 7-8 subjects, aiming to help simplify the current curriculum’s lessons and merge some subjects with each other. Not only that, but each subject may be given about 2 hours to maximize the learnings and its values to the students. Calculations say that the new schedule will be longer than some schedules in elementary schools yet will give more necessary knowledges to the students than what the current curriculum has to offer.

The implementation dates of this agenda are a little complicated. The way it works is that the kindergarteners go first, being given the treatment next school year, in the same line as first, fourth and seventh graders. Then the second, fifth, and eighth graders will be given the change the year after the previous. The third and next change will be given to the third, sixth, and ninth graders, and lastly, the last change will be give to the tenth graders.

Although it seems that the Filipino community is split on this decision, the goals of this agenda seem clear. Some people think that this is a heavily helpful advancement from the previous curriculum, while others simply deny its possible positive effects, possibly to just be against the government’s acts. Either way, this entire mission is clear to everyone, and it has good intentions.

In conclusion, the nation of the Philippines is aiming to change its path I the future. They are now giving focus to the most important things, and that is the children, being basically the future of this country. This will be another golden age for each one of us, not only for the present but for the upcoming stars of the youngsters.
