Truth Hurts

None of us can deny that we haven't done things that violate peace. Recently the Department of Education (DepEd) implemented a program called Peace Education which aims for students to become more respectful, and kind, and for Filipinos to adapt the true character of the youth.

At first glance, I thought Peace Education was rather useless because the word "peace' is already associated with Edukasyon Sa Pagkakatao o ESP. But it was different, it taught me how to handle situations more peacefully and professionally.

It also taught me how communication is the key to every conflict. This itself proves that Peace Education is what the youth need to enhance their personality and become sensible individuals. As we all know the rate of bullying and juvenile delinquency has risen.

Peace Education promotes the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to help people prevent conflict from occurring, resolve conflicts peacefully, or create conditions for peace. Teaching not only knowledge but also the correct attitude of us Filipinos. According to Ma'am Mary Jeanne B. Aldeguer in a press conference, peace education teaches children how to protect their selves their holistic views. Such students will already know the right to be protected and the right to speak up. It is integrated into makabayan, social studies.

In nurturing the youth, the hope of our beloved nation, we must not only focus on what the learner already knows but also what the learner must know and the correct attitude to become a role model to the youth. We only hope that the government properly gives full attention to the education of these learners and for them to build a brighter future.

As time ticks by a significant change might be the improvement of a lifetime. As problems arise the facts shall never hide, for we shall face them. Rather, we should find solutions for these problems because as we all know the "Truth Hurts".
