The reading proficiency level has gone downhill causing the quality of our education to be affected negatively as well. That is why recently the Department of Education (DepEd) implemented a new program called Catch- up Fridays.
For me the Catch-up Fridays is a good program since it can really engage learners to develop a habit of reading. The issue that I've seen is that teachers are not really that creative when it comes to creating activities rather they provide worksheets and let the students answer it. For me that's just a lazy way to give to recieve their salaries.
Catch-up Friday provides opportunities to enhance learners’ academic performance, particularly the low proficiency levels in reading based on national and international large-scale assessments. These assessment results necessitate prompt attention to address learning gaps and strengthen the reading proficiency of every learner.

Moreover, Mary Jeanne B. Aldeguer said in a press conference that Catch-up Fridays should be more festive and engaging for students with different learning styles. As time flies, the youth have been requiring more than we could ever have. That is why the DepEd is restlessly searching for solutions that can improve the quality of our education. If these are done properly and accordingly, maybe "When Pigs Fly" we will reach full success as we grapple on to the little rope of hope.
